Aurel Schmidt - Body Swallows World (2006) "Schmidt’s Body Swallows World was inspired, in part, by Théodore Rousseau’s The Forest in Winter at Sunset (ca. 1846-67) [last image of the above the set]. Rousseau’s painting– a huge and gloomy autumnal scene, with complex interlacing of tree branches and roots – provided a template for Schmidt’s investigation of landscape as both external terrain and projection of the inner life of the body. Taking its title from Mikhail Bakhtin’s 1940s book ...

Man vs nature. Drawing/collage (Molly Burnip) travelling--light.tumblr.com

This piece relates to my concentration in that it displays a sort of juxtaposition of human creation and nature. I like this piece because it puts two things that are not usually put together in order to contrast the man vs nature idea.

These amazing drawings are the work of New York based artist Aurel Schmidt. They are part of a series titled, Reveries Of A Lost Life Mask in which she pairs images with the poetry of American poet Franz Wright. I love their simplicity… so beautiful, yet so mundane. They are meant to be “a reminder of our own vulnerability and mortality”. Well, it worked… AND, I’m pretty sure I’ll never drink Diet Coke ever again {poor wilty rose!}
