In 1932, President Herbert Hoover appointed Benjamin Nathan Cardozo to the U.S. Supreme Court. Cardozo was the second Jew to serve on the nation’s highest court  after Louis D. Brandeis. Previously, Cardozo served as a judge on the New York State Supreme Court and as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. Cardozo was a twin with his sister Emily.
