The Egtved Girl's beer, made from a 3.300 year old recipe. In her coffin, a bark bucket was found. At the bottom lay a thick brown deposit. When the contents of the bucket were analysed it became clear that it had contained a fermented drink - probably beer sweetened with honey.  The newly reproduced beer is made from the same ingredients as was found in the coffin. Bronze age, beer, recipe, drinks, history, Denmark, prehistory.

The Egtved Girls costume. She was dressed in a striking cord skirt. It went doen to her kneew, was wound twice around her waist and was 38 cm long.  Fashion, prehistory, Denmark, history, Bronze age.

The Egtved Girl is one of the best-known figures from Danish prehistory. She was buried in an oak coffin one summer day in 1370 BC. The picture shows a womans grave from Egtved. Prehistory, Denmark, history, Bronze age.

The Rørby swords. In 1952 Thorvald Nielsen found an ornamented curved sword of bronze that had been stuck diagonally into the turf. The sword was from the beginning of the Bronze Age, around 1600 BC. In 1957, when Thorvald Jensen was digging up potatoes around the same place, he uncovered yet another curved sword. The second sword was also decorated with a picture of a ship. This is the oldest example of a ship image from Denmark. #prehistory #bronzeage #swords

The sun-holder is made of bronze and amber. It comes from Denmark but unfortunately it's find place is unknown. When held up against the light, a sun cross appears in the middle of the amber disc. The sun was an important element in Bronze Age religion. #religion #bronzeage #amber

Bellt plate from Langstrup. In the Bronze Age, a woman's social standing was marked by large belt ornaments, like belt plates and hanging vessels. Jewelry from Lundsbakke in Værlæse, north of Copenhagen. The jewelry was found in the grave of a man dating to the early Bronze Age. Denmark, Prehistoric Period, rare grave goods.

Foreign drinking bowls. In the Egtved Girl’s coffin a bark bucket containing an alcoholic drink sweetened by honey was found. Beer has now been produced with this recipe. Bronze age, special brew, Denmark.

Not all drinking bowls were imported. In Denmark people made bowls from wood with attractive patterns of hammered-in tin tacks. This was found in the mound Store Kongehøj at Kongeåen. Bronze, find, offerings.

In a newly opened peat-digging area of Brøns Mose at Viksø (Veksø) on Zealand one of the workers heard a crunching sound under his spade in 1942... It proved to be a helmet from Veksø. Bronze age, helmet, decoration, fashion, offering, Prehistoric Period.
