Stellar Ripple | Approximately 100 million years ago, a smaller galaxy plunged through the heart of the Cartwheel galaxy, creating ripples of brief star formation. In this image, the first ripple appears as an ultraviolet-bright blue outer ring so powerful that it may be one of the most powerful UV-emitting galaxies in the nearby universe.
✨Until now NGC 5584 was just one galaxy like many others, which lies to the west of the Virgo cluster. Known only by a series of studies of galaxies, its beauty is now revealed in all its splendor in a new image of the Very Large Telescope. In this pink purple object a large supernova, known as SN 2007af, was detected. Located about 75 million light-years away from Earth, it is located in the constellation of Virgo.
