As an urban homesteader, I wanted to share with you an idea we tried out for shading the chicken run during the heat of summer. We planted hops on the west side of the run (on the outside so the girls couldn't 'graze' on them). It has worked out quite well, not to mention that we will have enough hops to harvest and do a little homebrew.
