Rex Ray Inspired Sculptures

So what is going on in Art 2? Currently we are looking at the work and style of Rex Ray. If you are not familiar, Rex Ray is an artist/graphic artist who actively creates amazing design inspired artworks that focus on wonderful shapes, colors and patterns. His work is wildly vivid and interesting. His use of layers gave me the idea that his work could inspire a relief sculpture. Middle School Art: Mixed Media Cityscapes

Students looked at various examples of cityscapes, specifically the collage work of Romare Bearden. Students created their own mixed media cityscapes by layering various types of cardboard, cork board and wood pieces, painting it black and adding oil pastel for color and texture. Caris T. Niamh R. Low-relief Rhythmic Sculptures: Art II

A few months back I ran across a lesson plan that I had been wanting to try so I decided that it might be a good way to start off the new semester. After showing some examples from the lesson plan, the Art II students were eager to take on the challenge. To create a rhythmic feeling in art the artist must repeat certain lines, shapes, colors, patterns, etc. These examples of the final projects show that they really grasped the concept of rhythm in art.
