【作品解説】ジョルジョ・デ・キリコ「不安を与えるミューズたち」

《不安を与えるミューズたち》は、1916年から1918年にかけて制作された形而上絵画の画家ジョルジョ・デ・キリコの作品。 第一次世界大戦時にデ・キリコが軍役でフェラーラに滞在していたときに制作されたものである。デ・キリコはフェラーラを完璧な幾何学的な街と感動し、フェラーラの神秘的な街並みを作品に何度も描いている。本作《不安を与えるミューズたち》もまた、フェラーラの町並みを描いたものである。 当時、キリコが住んでいた近くにあったエステンセ城が背景に描かれており、煙突のある工場や作品全体にかかるサビの赤色が特徴的である。
