Gilded bronze horses (originals) from Basilica di San Marco Museo Marciano, Venezia, Italia. After the Fourth Crusade, Doge Enrico Dandolo sent the horses to Venice, where they were installed on the terrace of the façade of St. Mark's Basilica in 1254. The horses are thought to have first been made as part of a quadriga sculpture group at Constantinople Hippodrome.

Such objects were specially ordered from Venice and were used for display or occasional practical use at the table during special banquets.
