AJC Sepia HBCU of the Week: West Virginia State's NBA legend Earl Lloyd
Earl Lloyd was the greatest basketball player in the history of West Virginia State. He was named All-Conference for three years, from 1948 to 1950, and named All-American by the Pittsburgh Courier for 1949 and 1950. On Oct. 31, 1950, Lloyd became the first African-American to play in an NBA game when he took the court for the Washington Capitols.
