Major Nicole Malachowski, the first female demonstration pilot on the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron “Thunderbirds”. She provided air support over Kosovo in 1998 during the Bosnian/Serb conflict and on Election Day in Iraq. Major Malachowski served four months in Operation Iraqi Freedom - F-15 Strike Eagle fighter.

At the time of her death in 1980, Jacqueline Cochran held more speed, altitude, and distance records than any other male or female pilot in aviation history. She was also the first woman to break the sound barrier, doing so in 1953 in an F-86 Sabre jet. #WomensHistoryMonth
Alabama's first licensed black female pilot dies at 90
Mildred Carter of Tuskegee was Alabama’s first licensed black female pilot. With 150 hours of flight time logged, Carter flew the skies in a two-plane formation with her husband, a fellow Tuskegee Airman, Herbert Carter. Known as the Tuskegee Airmen Organization’s “First Family,” the Carters were married for nearly 70 years. She passed away in October 2011.
First Female Pilot Joins Blue Angels
Marine Capt. Katie Higgins, 27, the first-ever female Blue Angel. She will fly as a C-130 demonstration pilot starting in October. Higgins, a 2008 graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, is currently assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 (VMGR-252) at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.
