Because St. Pat's is so special to Five Points, the Five Points Association has created bronze leprechauns and installed them around the district. "Logan" the leprechaun can be seen (if you hunt for him!) in very iconic and well-known Five Points landmarks. Sometimes a full Logan will be visible -- and in some places only his head is peeking out or he may have left a pair of shoes behind. Take a moment and discover nature and history on South Carolina's capitol grounds. The complex sits on 18 beautifully landscaped acres, and these grounds are as much a part of history as the debates that took place under that shimmering copper dome. Here, General Sherman's cannons shelled the blue granite walls of the building from across the river. Can you find all 6 bronze stars marking the cannonball strikes? Having successfully completed his march to the sea by capturing Savannah in December of 1864, Union Major General William Tecumseh Sherman planned his invasion of South Carolina. His target was Columbia, the state capital where the secession movement began and considered by his generals to be a more important capture than any in the South. Re-trace Sherman’s path into Columbia, stand where he stood, walk the same streets, see the preserved ruins and visit the structures spared a fiery death. Shermans March, Major General
